SECTION 3: PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

WP-200, a Colloidal Silicate subsurface membrane with a special integral water repellent.
WP-200 is an especially formulated aqueous siliconate component that is cloudy-white in color (dries clear), ordorless, non-petroleum, colloidal liquid that is environmentally neutral and user friendly.

SECTION 4: BASIC USE

WP-200 is a liquid solution that can be applied to wood by either pressure impregnation, submerging of wood or by surface coating.  Wood treated with WP-200 will be highly resistant to fire, waterproofed and preserved.

When unprotected wood is exposed to fire it will combust at a much hire rate of speed, than wood treated with WP-200.  Not only doesWP-200 provide fire resistance, but it also is highly effective in protecting the wood against fungus, mildew, algae, airborne pollutants, insects, and etc.  WP-200 also alleviates or prevents warping, cracking, shrinking, growth of mold, mildew, rot, and etc.  Furthermore, WP-200 also provides UV protection to wood.

WP-200 deeply penetrates, dries clear and exceeds environmental requirements.  WP-200 may be used on both horizontal and vertical surfaces, and WP-200 can be used on all types of wood.  New wood coated with WP-200 usually takes on a richer golden appearance while older weathered wood retains its same appearance, following treatment with WP-200.

SECTION 5: INSTALLATION SUGGESTIONS

WP-200 can be applied to wood using the full-cell pressure method, submerging the wood or surface applying.

The most common and most effective method to treat wood with WP-200 is the full-cell pressure method.  However, if pressure treating is not required, wood can also be treated by several other methods.  Some of these methods are submerging the wood, using a pump-tank sprayer, brush, paint roller and/or dipping.  Any of these application methods are acceptable, as long as WP-200 is applied in a uniform manner.

NEW WOOD: WP-200 should be applied to new wood, even if pressure-treated, as soon as possible, to preserve its appearance and to minimize water absorption and aesthetic damage.

OLD WOOD: Complete repairs, if any, should wood need cleaning for WP-200 penetration, or for aesthetic reasons, clean with a stiff bristled scrub brush and water, to remove stains, etc., and since bleach will lighten old discolored wood, entire surface area should be done.  Rinse thoroughly to remove bleach water then allow wood to dry for a minimum of two days, prior to application.

CEDAR SHAKES AND SHINGLES: Cedar wood shakes may be waterproofed; preserved with WP-200.  Prior to treating old shakes, repair leaks, loose nails, bad flashings, and etc.  Replace damaged shakes that are not to be salvaged.  Also, prior to applying WP-200, remove dirt, leaves and debris.  Allow shakes to dry for two days following rainfall.  The low pressure airless sprayer provides best finish on shakes, and is most effective for wood shake or shingle siding applications.  Apply using one coat method.

POWER WASHING WOOD: Power washing wood is another method of removing old sealers, stains, dirt and general discoloration.  Power wash unit should be capable of 200 psi operating pressure and delivery approximately 4 gallons of water per minute.  Nozzle should have a 15 degree spray fan and be held 8 to 12 inches away from surface (futher, if wood is badly deteriorated) for optimum cleaning.  Use only clean potable water.  Care should be taken to prevent damage.

WORN, STAINED, PREVIOUSLY COATED SURFACES: WP-200’s ability to penetrate wood is essential, to beneficially protect it.  If there is a doubt about whether WP-200 will penetrate of not, splash some water on the surface of the wood in question.  Should surface quickly absorb the water, making wood noticeably darker, then it needs WP-200 protection.  If water beads instead of absorbing into wood, then the surface may already be protected.  Later, if exposed wood treated with WP-200 appears to have lost its effectiveness, the water splash technique can be used to ascertain whether wood is in need of a WP-200 recoat, or not.  In an exposed exterior application, WP-200 should be effective for a least two years, depending on severity of woods exposure.

SAW CUTTING OF NON-PRESSURE TREATED WOOD: Any wood that has not been treated by the pressure method and that is cut after being treated by other methods, should have WP-200 applied to the new saw cut areas.

Limitations:

  1. The most affective method of applying WP-200 is by full-cell pressure method or by submerging the wood for several hours.  The other methods listed above are affective to some extent however just not the most affective method.
  2. WP-200 may dull the shine on shiny aluminum; however, aluminum’s integrity is otherwise unaffected.
  3. Do not apply WP-200 when ambient temperature is at or below 35°F and expected to drop shortly.
  4. Wait at least 24 hours before applying paint, or other coatings on surfaces that have been treated with WP-200.

SECTION 6:  PRECAUTIONS

Protect everything in work area you don’t wish to coat, even plants shrubs, etc.  WP-200 , while still wet, can easily be removed, however, when dried WP-200 is difficult to remove.  Clean splatters and drips immediately prior to drying.  Application tools should be cleaned immediately after use.

WP-200 spray mist is not hazardous to breath.  However, we do recommend the use of a face mask during application.
    MSDS.

WP-200 has proven to be non-toxic, however, contact with skin and eyes, should be avoided, if skin is contacted wash with soap and water to remove, for accidental eye contact, immediately flush eyes with clean running water.  Incidental spray droplets or splatters contacting lips or tongue is not health hazardous, however, if accidentally ingested get medical attention should nausea or vomiting develop.

WP-200 may etch glass or dull shiny aluminum and can be difficult to remove from other surfaces once it dries.

Do not apply when temperature is near freezing.

Application by submersion can alter the color of some wood such as red wood, cedar, and mahogany.
