RUST LOCK Summary:
Designed to resist weathering that promotes rust, and to withstand acids, salts, petrochemical products and caustic materials
Encapsulates rust and corrosion forming an air tight and moisture proof barrier virtually eliminating future rust and corrosion
RUST LOCK Attributes:
Extremely tough/durable • Abrasion and mechanical impact resistant • Flexible and will not crack or peel from expansion and contraction during extreme temperature variations • Resistant to continuous immersion in acids, salts, alkalis,
oils, solvents and other refined chemicals
Encapsulate toxic materials •
EPA approved to encapsulate toxic materials, including lead based paint and asbestos, eliminating the need for expensive procedures to remove the toxic material. •
Applied to dry or wet surfaces
Protective Coating •
Applied to new surfaces to prevent future corrosion problems, and older surfaces over the existing corrosion to prohibit further corrosion •
Extremely weather resistant and UV resistant for long life in adverse environments • High temperature resistance, up to 392ºF
Easy to apply:
Roller, brush or spray application
One coat application that dries in 2 hours
Will penetrate and encapsulate up to 18 coats of other paint
RUST LOCK Cost Benefits:
Requires less preparation time with no expensive and dirty sandblasting requirements
Encapsulate toxic materials, including lead based paint and asbestos, eliminating the need for expensive procedures to
remove the toxic material and its disposal
There’s no need to risk poisoning workers or contaminating the environment
Applied to new surfaces to prevent future corrosion problems, and older surfaces to prohibit further corrosion reducing repair cost.
Environmentally safe:
Without question the most effective versatile encapsulating and pore penetrating coating on the market
Protective coating savings will more than offset the cost of
repair/replacing damage from corrosion or costly removal of toxic material
Is ranked #1 in Field Testing against all other corrosion control coatings
Testing has shown life expectancy to be 25+ years
Eliminates need for costly sandblasting and grinding
Eliminates need for costly toxic waste removal
DESCRIPTION:
RUST LOCK is a one-part polyurethane coating that combines with
atmospheric moisture to cure. Upon curing, RUST LOCK provides a protective coating of superior adhesion, flexibility and abrasion/impact-resistance. It is resistant to chemical solvents and acid splash.
Originally designed for metal surfaces, RUST LOCK demonstrates excellent adhesion to wood, concrete, fiberglass and many other substrates. RUST LOCK is designed for the encapsulation of and
adherence to tightly-bonded surfaces of lead-based and other toxic paints as well as rusted surfaces. This unique ability is accomplished by the
curing mechanism of the base polymer. The coating (having a low initial viscosity) wets the rusty surface, penetrates to the foundation of the rust's
origin where curing begins, and the polymer begins to swell, developing an interlocking network between the pores of the surface and the coating.
No pot life, no catalyzation, no two-part mixing. Can substitute for zinc-rich primer requiring no white sand-blasting. Can be applied over rusted
surfaces after loose/flaking material is removed. High humidity quickens dry/cure cycle.
APPLICATION METHODS:
Can power wash with solvent wipe down, light commercial blast, or power
hand tool to remove loose flake and debris before applying. Can use power tool (within the guidelines of Clean Air Act) with vacuum to prep lead-based
paints (as discussed at Steel Structures Painting Council--SSPC--meeting March 15-17 attended by EPA and NIOSH) before applying RUST LOCK
over lead-based paints. Possible alternative to abatement of lead paints. Surfaces should be clean, dry and sound. Existing surface dirt, oil, tar,
grease and film should be removed from surface by approved methods (TSP-Tri-Sodium Phosphate or equivalent) prior to application of RUST LOCK. MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY. IMPORTANT: Stir product thoroughly
before using. (Methods: SSPC-SP-2, SP-3, SP-6, SP-7) RUST LOCK can be applied slowly with soft bristle brush, roller or spray equipment. It should be applied evenly without buildup at the prescribed
thickness. Overly thick application may cause surface bubbling from gassing. Apply in one-coat system using cross-hatch method (side-to-side,
up and down over same area). CAUTION: Wear gloves and protective clothing. Extremely tough to clean off skin. Throw away brushes and rollers
after use. Wear eye protection. *CLEAN UP IMMEDIATELY OR WILL RUIN EQUIPMENT. SOLVENT: Clean-up or reduction, use MEK or MIBK. If sprayed, keep solvent ready to clean equipment before breaks (lunch hour)
or at conclusion of job.
IMPORTANT:
Wear skin and eye protection. Do not take internally. Avoid contact with
eyes. If solution does come in contact with eyes, flush immediately with water and contact a physician for medical attention. Avoid prolonged
contact with skin or breathing of spray mist. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. This is a flammable liquid. Keep away from flame or fire or
other sources of ignition. NOTE: If overcoating with any other paint products, do so within a 2-week time period of initial application of RUST LOCK.
FEATURES:
USDA-approved (safe around foods)/Lead- & chromite-free Solid By wgt.: 50% / By volume: 51.37%
By pigment: 15.10% / By vehicle wgt.: 48% 5-8 wet mil coat, 2-4 dry mil (200 sq.ft./gal.) Dry Time: 1 hour to touch; 2 hours to re-coat (Must be overcoated with self
within 4 hours. May topcoat with other coatings if within 2 weeks). May be used by itself without a top coat. Excellent adhesion to wide variety of substrates. Attaches into the pores of
metal or concrete and expands to lock in. Cures by reacting to moisture in the air. A portion of a container may be used and re-sealed for later use, if done so
carefully. A skin will form on surface of product. Remove skin and use as directed. Salt Spray Corrosion Test: 2000 hours / Rating Procedure B:9
